http://www.transformativeworks.org
The website will continue to grow, but you can learn more about the current status of the projects that fall under the umbrella of the OTW: the archive, the journal, legal assistance, and the wiki.
We'd like to draw your attention to our vision, our values, and our mission statement. Members of the OTW have listened to many conversations in many venues about these core values of the organization, and held many conversations among ourselves about them. We hope you see that level of attention reflected in the vision, values, and mission statement. We feel that it now represents as well as is possible the goals and directions of this organization. The OTW welcomes your feedback: most likely we will not be making additional changes in the near future, as a stable mission is important for moving forward and building the organization, but we will always be listening and there is always room for our organization and our mission to evolve over time.
The OTW of course does not represent all of fandom, as no one entity can make that claim. But we hope that many of you will find enough common ground with these goals to continue to support and participate in the OTW. At the core, this is what we believe in passionately and will work to achieve: to serve the interests of fans by providing access to and preserving the history of fanworks and fan culture in its myriad forms.
Please visit the OTW website!

Just one point, and I'm sure you've already discussed it many times, and I respect your decision to include it as a value - but the one thing that stops me wanting to affiliate with the OTW is the references to 'female culture'. I recognise that women dominate many parts of fandom, and that many of the attributes of fandom of merit are associated with females. However, I think our culture is (and should be) diverse and male-influenced too (in a good way!) and as such we should not explicitly limit ourselves on a gender-culture basis.
Just my view, but I feel strongly about it so had to share. Congratulations on the site and thank you for all your hard work.

There's just no pleasing some people :)
I'm much more comfortable with the new mission statement and values; however, you use this definition of transformative works in the FAQ:Transformative works are creative works about characters or settings created by fans of the original work, rather than by the original creators.
You do explicitly state you consider RPF transformative (I still don't), but under this definition I don't see why. It's the phrase "original work" that throws me - there's no "original work" in RPF.
It's not so much the usage, or the fact I disagree with RPF as transformative because in the end that's just a difference of opinion, but that particular definition reads as rather exclusive.

Re: There's just no pleasing some people :)
...there's no "original work" in RPF.Sure there is. Any concert is an original work. So's a sports event. Or a movie award ceremony. Or an interview.
Just because the original works aren't fiction doesn't make them not "creative works," or whatever it is one makes fanfic(etc.) from. They're just as much a performance as a TV episode.

We value our identity as a predominantly female community with a rich history of creativity and commentary.
Admittedly we're not *all* women but I am and it's always been the way that I've looked at the community, a group of amazing, creative, diverse women.

As I recall our discussion back in early October, you expressed a wish at that time not to be involved with the organization's wiki? If you are interested, though, you can contact volunteers@transformativeworks.org and let them know; they can put you in touch with our wiki committee chair.
